10 Ways to Pamper Yo’ Self As Told By Patrick Star

When in doubt, pinky out.

Thanks for checking in! This post is the first of a four-part series leading up to Valentine’s Day, so dig in and check out the “Yo, what’s next?” tab to see if the next 3 posts catch your eye 😉

Splurge on your favorite food.

If you’re like me, you probably have more than one favorite type of food. If this is the case, try to find something that you know you like but maybe haven’t had in a while. For example, I equally enjoy bacon and ice-cream(though not together, yuck), but they are both pretty cheap and I have them a fair once in a while. But mocha ice-cream??? That stuff is rice dough covered creamy goodness and definitely splurge-worthy.

Read or write something you enjoy in peaceful surroundings.

Doesn’t matter if it’s a book, magazine, tablet, whatever! Reading and writing takes you into another world for a little while and is always a relaxing retreat.

Take a long nap!

I don’t feel like this needs much discussion. If you’re a human being, you know the power of the nap.

Do a movie/Netflix marathon.

Who doesn’t like a good movie? For that matter, who doesn’t like Netflix? I adore Netflix, I can’t get enough. #noshame

Grab your friends and go out to eat.

First rule: Don’t bring that Debbie Downer friend or the one that makes snippy comments, or even the Butthurt About Her Life one. Just don’t. They’re fun-suckers. Take people who actually want to have some light fun and go to an old favorite or maybe try a new place! (Unless you live in Kirksville, MO where there is likely nothing you haven’t tried.)

Hit up a resale shop and challenge yourself to find an outfit under $15!

Believe it or not, this is an actually do-able goal! And you can even feel better about your new outfit because you’re helping the locals and reusing someone’s unwanted clothes.

Challenge yourself to spend a whole day in your pajamas.

I would recommend saving this for a day where you don’t have to go to work or class. But we all know staying in pajamas the whole day is just about the best feeling in the world. Right next to staying in bed the whole day.

Light a candle that smells really good.

Pick a candle, any candle. I don’t know why exactly but lighting a candle just seems to always put people in a good mood.

Play hooky for a day…just one, mind you.

Call me crazy, but I think that it’s healthy to take a mental health day every now and then. Sometimes things in your life all stack up at the same time and the thought of leaving home is just awful. Taking a day to revamp and relax could be more beneficial and prep you to go back into the world. That said, be honest about your reasons for taking a day off and don’t do it simply to shirk responsibilities, especially if others are counting on you for something that day. And also don’t let your mental health days become a mental health week, for goodness sakes!

Spend an hour helping somebody else.

While it seems counterintuitive, spending time helping someone else can actually make you feel better! And that’s a way to pamper yourself that will stick with you long past any of these other tips 🙂
