An Honest Review: 5 Skincare Products that Actually Work

First things first, I’m not some big beauty expert, so if you’re looking for somebody who tests face masks for a living, I am not that blogger. That said, I happen to be a somewhat normal (i.e. normally weird) girl who happens to like trying new beauty products from time to time.

And what I’ve often found is that so many products out there just don’t work as they’re supposed to. It’s always so disappointing to lay down a stack of cash for something that you expect to work, and then…nada. But I can vouch for the 5 products below as ones that actually do what they advertise. As an added bonus, I am a cheap lady who favors drugstore brands so if you channel Mr. Krabs as well, you might appreciate the low prices on some of these products.

Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer with Sunscreen (SPF 15), $8 Olay Complete Lotion All Day Moisturizer with SPF 15 for Normal Skin 40 fl oz 01

The good news about this moisturizer is that it goes on feeling very light and has a minimum ‘sunscreen smell’ to it. I’d like to also believe it does a pretty good job of protecting my face from UV rays, as I wore this stuff every day through my first Georgia summer and my face efficiently resisted a tan.

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser, $6

Everybody always says you have to have some sort of cleaning ritual at the end of the day to really get the grime off your face. Problem is, I hate processes that take more than a few steps. Enter Cetaphil. This cleanser is so light and is an easy one to use every day.

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask, $17

This pore-cleaning mask comes in a tube so you can use however much you want at a time. And it lasts awhile too! I had the smaller size and mine lasted 6 masks worth! I always feel like my face is so much cleaner after using this mask; it definitely vacuum-cleans your pores and makes them appear smaller.

Biore Pore Strips, $5-14 depending on how many

If you haven’t hopped on the pore strip bandwagon, boy is it time for you to join us. You might feel funny with a strip on your nose or forehead but it is so satisfying to take it off and see all the gunk it got out of your hard to reach pores. It amazes me every single time. I gave my boyfriend one once to try it just to be funny, and he was also amazed. That’s the power of pore strips.

Dr Jart+ Firm Lover Rubber Mask, $12

Okay, really any of Dr. Jart’s masks are effing fantastic, but the Rubber Lover series is top notch. You cannot use one of these without feeling beautiful. They are a bit on the pricey side, but treat yo self and try one at least once. If you love it, I’d recommend buying the Tarot set from Sephora, which comes with a multitude of their masks.

Obligatory note: I did not receive any funds from these brands and all opinions are entirely my own. (Though if an advertiser is reading this and is interested, I am looking for potential partnerships.)
