Top Ten Tuesday: Books on My Summer TBR

let's go summer!

*Top 10 Tuesday is a weekly post based off of submitted topics. You can find a list of each week’s topics at That Artsy Reader Girl.*

Books on My Summer 2019 TBR

FYI, this list only includes 8 books! I tried my best to think of ten but I honestly could only come up with eight that I’m really looking forward to.

Soul of the Sword by Julie Kagawa

Full disclosure: I totally finished this yesterday so not really on my TBR anymore but I still felt I should include it since it was one of my top reads planned for summer. I’m not sure if I’ll write a full review post on it but it was amazing and if you haven’t read the first book in the Shadow of the Fox series, you really should check it out. Kagawa’s Iron Fey series is also stellar.

Coral by Sara Ella

I have a NetGalley arc of this I’ve yet to get to. I’m getting a bit tired of Little Mermaid retellings but this one looks like it’ll be quite different.

Bad Girls Throughout History by Ann Shen

Every once in a while, I crave a little nonfiction and this fits the bill perfectly. The illustrations are well done and I like authors who take a humorous look at history.

Everneath by Brodi Ashton

I’ve always been a sucker for mythology retellings but I’m pretty wary of Hades/Persephone retellings as they can get a bit Stockholm Syndrome-y. This one looks a little bit more nuanced so I’ll give it a shot.

The Swallows by Lisa Lutz

I’ve already started this one and it definitely is very twisty and interesting. Basically, the book follows several characters in a Vermont boarding school as the female students become more and more disgruntled with the sexist behavior of the boys. So far, it looks like things are going to be intense.

Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I mean, are you kidding me, a historical fantasy with Mexican folklore and a girl mixing with the Mayan god of death? How could I not read this?!?

Into Elurien by Kate Sparkes

This fantasy/romance sounds really good but I’m having problems finding a copy. None of the libraries in my area seem to have it so I might have to buy through Amazon to read it.

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

I will get to this book sometime this summer. I was really pumped for it initially and did receive an ARC, but the copy was unreadable on my Kindle. As such, it slowly drifted to the bottom of my list.

Are any of these books on your Summer TBR as well? What books are you most looking forward to reading this summer?

I love fairytale retellings, so I’ll definitely be looking up Coral! And the Persephone/Hades myth always appeals to me, so that’s another for the TBR list 😁

Yes, fairy tale retellings are always high on my list! Thanks for reading!
