Did I Read My Most Anticipated Reads for 2019? Let’s Find Out!

Copy of let's go summer!

In looking back at 2019, I wanted to see if I actually read all of the books I was most looking forward to at the start of the year.

Here is the post I did on Part 1 of my most anticipated 2019 reads, and here is the post for Part 2.

So which books did I actually read? Let’s tally them below!

The Wicked King by Holly Black

Read? Yes! Interestingly enough, this wasn’t my favorite book in the series, but it set things up for Queen of Nothing, which I really liked. Here is the link to my review.

King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

Read? Yes! This was one of my favorite books of 2019, and let it be said, I read this book before I’d even finished the trilogy.

Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi

Read? Yes! Just finished this one, it was solid overall.

Finale by Stephanie Garber

Read? Yes! Another favorite read of the year, but really sad to see the series end.

Descendant of the Crane by Joan He

Read? No. I regret this one a bit, as I requested an ARC direct from the author, got one, and then promptly became too busy to read it. I still haven’t finished my copy and am not sure if I feel strongly enough about it to go back to it.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer

Read? Yes! I’m not sure if the book merited all the hype it got, but it was decent overall and I’m still looking forward to the sequel.

Lady Smoke by Laura Sebastian

Read? No. I have a copy on my shelf and keep meaning to get to it but hasn’t happened yet. Oops.

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

Read? Yes! I really liked this story while I was reading it, but it didn’t blow me away. I think 2019 was the year of over-hyped YA books letting me down slightly.

Tiger Queen by Annie Sullivan

Read? Yes! This wasn’t my favorite book but I appreciated getting to read an ARC and I wish it had gotten more attention. Here is my review of the book.

So out of 9 anticipated 2019 releases, I read 7! That’s not too bad, but it’s not hard to read books you’re looking forward to!

What books were your favorite in 2019? Did you get to all the books you wanted to read?
